Restored Historical Art for Modern Walls

Aster is a decoration brand created by artist Florent Bodart, built around a singular idea: finding forgotten artworks in historical archives and bringing them back to life through meticulous restoration and editing. The Kuriosis collection spans botanical illustrations like Fleurs et Fruits and Fleurs et Insectes, celestial cartography such as the Carte Celeste and The Solar System, and richly detailed nature scenes like Indian Jungle. These are not simple reproductions — each piece goes through careful colour correction, detail recovery, and compositional refinement to ensure it reads as a finished work of art rather than a scan of an old page.

What makes Aster's approach distinctive is the balance between historical authenticity and contemporary presentation. The original draughtsmanship, scientific precision, and decorative sensibility of the source material remain intact, but the prints feel current — clean, well-balanced, and ready for the wall. The botanical pieces carry the exacting detail of 18th and 19th-century natural history illustration. The celestial maps bring astronomical cartography into a decorative context without losing their informational character. Each restored piece tells a story of craftsmanship spanning centuries — the original artist's skill preserved and amplified by careful modern editing.

Paper and Canvas Options

Aster prints are available on 225g matte fine art paper and 400g cotton canvas. Fine art paper brings out the intricate linework and subtle colour shifts in botanical and cartographic pieces — the matte surface preserves the delicate hatching and tonal gradations that characterise historical illustration. Paper sizes range from A3 through 50x70 cm, 70x100 cm, to A0. Framing in oak, black, or walnut brown completes the presentation — oak feels natural alongside botanical subjects, while black frames lend a museum quality to the celestial maps.

For the nature scenes and bolder compositions, canvas prints on stretcher bars add a tactile warmth that suits the organic subject matter. The cotton canvas texture echoes the materiality of the original artworks in a way that paper cannot. Canvas sizes run 30x40 cm, 50x70 cm, and 70x100 cm, with optional floating frames for a gallery effect.

Aster's work connects well with our broader botanical poster collection and the nature collection. Collectors interested in historical illustration will also find related pieces in the vintage poster collection.
