Caroline Bonne Müller

Caroline Bonne Müller's illustrations are warm, characterful, and unapologetically colourful — cats in city windows, travel scenes from Paris to Amalfi, starlit cityscapes. What Characterises Caroline Bonne Müller's Work

Caroline Bonne Müller is a Spain-based artist with a background in fashion design — and both the European sensibility and the designer's eye for pattern are visible in her illustrations. Working with acrylics, crayons, and coloured pencils, she creates scenes that embrace imperfection as a deliberate choice. The line work is loose and confident; the colours are bold, often unexpected; and every composition tells a story.

The cat series — Cat in front of window in New York, Cat in front of window in Paris, Cat on sofa in London — places the same subject in different cities, using the view through the window to establish place while the cat anchors each scene with quiet personality. The travel pieces — Amalfi Coast, Amsterdam City Life on a Boat — capture European destinations with the same narrative warmth, as if sketched from a café table.

The cityscapes — Oriental city under a starry sky — bring a more fantastical quality, where architectural detail and saturated colour create scenes that feel closer to illustration than documentation.

Choosing the Right Format

Fine art paper is the natural choice for Müller's illustrations. The expressive pencil and crayon textures, the layered colour application, and the loose line work come through with full clarity on a smooth matte surface. Paper prints are available in A3, 50×70cm, 70×100cm, and A0, with oak, black, or walnut brown frames.

On canvas, the painterly quality of the acrylics gains additional depth — the textured surface echoes the physical medium and adds warmth to the already warm palette. Canvas prints come in 30×40cm, 50×70cm, and 70×100cm, with an optional floating frame. Natural oak frames suit the warm palette of most pieces; black frames work best for the brighter, more graphic compositions.

Pairing Caroline Bonne Müller Prints

The cat series works as a natural set — three city cats in matching frames create a gallery wall with built-in narrative. Each piece stands alone, but together they tell a story about place and observation. The travel pieces similarly group well — Amalfi Coast alongside Amsterdam City Life creates a European journey in two frames.

Müller's warm, characterful illustration pairs well with other figurative artists in our design and illustration collection. For a complementary pairing, combine with Gigi Rosado, whose expressive pencil strokes and everyday subjects share a similar warmth. The travel scenes also connect to our travel collection and the city pieces to our urban art collection.

For a broader contemporary grouping, explore work from Arty Guava, whose tropical colour energy provides a lively counterpoint to Müller's European sensibility.

All prints are produced in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years.
