The Movements Behind This Collection

This collection spans the major European art movements from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century. Claude Monet and the Impressionists broke with studio tradition, painting outdoors to capture shifting light and atmosphere. Post-Impressionists like Vincent van Gogh pushed colour and form further — saturated palettes, visible brushwork, emotional intensity that still resonates. Art Nouveau designers like Alphonse Mucha turned commercial posters into decorative art, filling Parisian streets with flowing botanical borders and idealised figures. The collection also includes Symbolists like Odilon Redon, early Expressionists like Ernst Kirchner, and Pointillists like Georges Seurat.

What connects these artists is lasting visual impact. A Monet water lily study, a Mucha theatre poster, a Van Gogh cypress landscape — these compositions hold up because the colour relationships and structure are strong, not because the names are famous. Many buyers come for a specific iconic image and leave with a lesser-known piece that caught their eye.

Choosing the Right Format

Fine art paper works best for artists with graphic precision and fine detail. Mucha's intricate line drawings and Seurat's pointillist compositions stay crisp on our 225g matte paper, where every line and dot remains distinct. Canvas is the better match for painterly work — Monet's soft edges, Van Gogh's heavy impasto, and Gustav Klimt's layered gold compositions gain warmth and depth on the textured 400g cotton surface.

Paper prints are available in A3, 50×70cm, 70×100cm, and A0. Canvas prints come in 30×40cm, 50×70cm, and 70×100cm, with an optional floating frame for a gallery finish. For framing, oak is the most versatile choice — warm enough for Impressionist colour, neutral enough for graphic work. Black frames create a strong border that suits bold compositions. Walnut brown pairs well with earth-toned Post-Impressionist landscapes.

How to Style Classic Prints

A single large-format print — 70×100cm or A0 — gives a classic work the presence it was originally designed for. Monet painted his Water Lilies at mural scale; Mucha's posters filled entire walls. These are compositions that gain impact with size, and our larger formats let the detail and colour breathe properly. For gallery walls, mixing movements works well: a Mucha poster alongside a Kirchner woodcut creates contrast without clashing.

The safer choice isn't always the best one. A Pissarro village scene or a Henri-Edmond Cross coastal landscape often makes more of an impression than the most reproduced Monet — same quality of light and colour, less visual fatigue. Exploring beyond the greatest hits is where this collection rewards attention.

Every print is produced in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years.
