Living Room Posters

Wall art for living room walls gets looked at every day, from the sofa and from the doorway, so it has to hold up longer than a picture in the hallway. This collection gathers motifs that do, from Hilma af Klint's The Ten Largest and Mondrian's compositions to Japanese woodblock prints and botanical leaf studies. Every motif comes as an art print on matte fine art paper or as a canvas print, both made to order in our Berlin studio. For the wall above the sofa, 70 × 100 cm is the size we reach for most often.

Which wall art works in a living room

You see living room art from further away than art in a hallway, so large, calm compositions do well: Hilma af Klint's The Ten Largest, Mondrian's Composition No. I with Red and Black, or a Japanese woodblock print like Hashiguchi Goyo's Hot Spring Inn. Abstract work by Jazzberry Blue brings colour without a literal subject. Botanical leaf studies and Julie de Graag's Zonnebloem suit a quieter, plant-filled room, and if you like the Bauhaus line, Rosi Feist's Wassily Chair and Kandinsky's Free Curve exhibition poster are here too. You find more of these motifs in Japanese woodblock prints.

Art print or canvas print, and which size

Paintings and soft colour fields, like af Klint or Goyo, gain from the woven texture of a canvas print, stretched around a stretcher frame about 2 cm deep, made of FSC-certified wood. Line work, maps and exhibition posters stay sharper as an art print on matte fine art paper. Above a sofa, 50 × 70 cm is the smallest size that does not look lost. 70 × 100 cm fills the wall on its own, see large art prints in 70 × 100 cm and large canvas prints. Three A3 prints in matching frames make a gallery wall.

Frames for the living room

Frames come in oak, black and brown. Oak warms botanical and vintage motifs, black sharpens Mondrian and the abstracts, brown sits between. A canvas print can also have a floating frame in the same three woods, with a 5 to 9 mm gap depending on the size. We make every print with pigment inks rated for more than 100 years. How high to hang and how to match colours is in our guide How to Choose Art for Your Living Room.
