Thoth Adan — Meditative Ink and Mineral Art

Thoth Adan is a Swiss-born, Austria-based artist whose work draws from minimal aesthetics and Asian philosophies. After a career in communication design and photorealistic portraiture, he reinvented his practice entirely — working now with Japanese Sumi ink and mineral pigments on Washi paper. The results are serene, contemplative compositions rooted in Eastern art traditions, abstract expressionism, and graphic design. Each piece reflects a commitment to simplicity, balance, and mindful intention.

His meditative approach connects naturally with our Japanese art collection, and his minimal compositions sit well alongside other contemporary artists who work with restraint and precision.

Printing Thoth Adan's Ink Work

Adan's compositions rely on the interplay between ink density and negative space — subtle tonal shifts that require careful reproduction. We print on 225g matte fine art paper using archival pigment inks, which captures the fine gradations between deep blacks and lighter washes without flattening the transitions. The matte surface suits the contemplative quality of the work. For selected pieces, 400g cotton canvas adds a tactile warmth that complements the organic quality of his ink and mineral pigment originals. All prints are produced in our Berlin studio.

Paper sizes: A3, 50x70cm, 70x100cm, A0. Canvas prints: 30x40cm, 50x70cm, 70x100cm. Frames available in oak, black, and walnut brown. Canvas prints can be ordered with a floating frame for a gallery-style shadow gap.
