Mirjam Schrei: Urban Atmospheres in Oil and Mixed Media
Mirjam Schrei is an Austrian visual artist based in Graz whose paintings capture the emotional texture of urban life — shifting light, street-level energy, the warmth of a window at dusk. Working primarily in oil, ballpoint pen, and coloured pencil, she builds compositions that balance realism and abstraction. A graduate of the University of Art in Linz, her work has been exhibited internationally.
The pieces in this collection — Urban Sunset, Street Market, Flicker of Home, Cool City Tones, Urban Connection — each respond to the mood of a specific moment. Schrei paints not what a place looks like but what it feels like to stand there. Loose brushwork carries warmth and movement; the palette shifts between muted urban tones and sudden saturated colour. These are paintings that reward slow looking.
What makes Schrei's work particularly suited to print is the painterly texture that holds up at every scale. The layered brushstrokes and colour transitions read clearly on both fine art paper and canvas — each format bringing something different to the same image.
Paper and Canvas: Two Ways to Experience the Work
On 225g matte fine art paper, Schrei's compositions gain sharpness and detail clarity. The matte surface captures the tonal range of her palette without reflection, and the archival pigment inks hold every colour transition precisely. Paper sizes: A3, 50x70cm, 70x100cm, A0. Frame options: oak, black, walnut brown.
On 400g cotton canvas, the same paintings take on a different character entirely. The woven texture of the canvas interacts with Schrei's brushwork, adding a physical depth that echoes the original medium. Canvas sizes: 30x40cm, 50x70cm, 70x100cm. Available stretched on a wooden frame or with a floating frame for a gallery-style presentation.
Both formats are printed in our Berlin studio with archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years of colour stability.
