Claire Lerner – Nature Photography and Botanical Fine Art

Claire Lerner is an American artist working at the intersection of photography and botanical observation. Her images focus on the delicate details of the natural world — plants, flowers, and landscapes rendered through a lens of soft colour and careful composition. The work has a stillness to it that invites close looking: not dramatic, not staged, but quietly revelatory.

Her approach to the natural landscape shares something with the still-life tradition — finding the right angle, the right light, the right moment of natural arrangement. The resulting images have a painterly quality despite being photographic, because the compositional thinking behind them belongs to fine art rather than documentary photography.

Format Choices

Fine art paper is the natural home for Lerner's photographic work. The smooth 225g matte surface reproduces the tonal subtleties of natural light — the pale greens, warm beiges, and soft whites that define her palette — with precision and without surface glare. Paper prints are available in A3, 50×70 cm, 70×100 cm, and A0. Oak frames pair well with the warm naturalistic palette; black frames work for the more minimal, graphic compositions.

Canvas gives the work a slightly more tactile, painterly presence — the cotton weave adds a physical dimension to what are already texturally considered images. Canvas prints are available in 30×40 cm, 50×70 cm, and 70×100 cm, with an optional floating frame.

Pairing Ideas

Lerner's botanical photography pairs naturally with illustration-based botanical work. Consider Claire Hanley for painted botanical work in a similar palette, or browse the full botanical prints collection. For landscape work in a more impressionistic style, Alexander Shandor offers a strong counterpoint. All prints are produced in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years.
