Melanie Viola

Melanie Viola has shot full-time since 2015, turning her travels into graphic, high-contrast black-and-white cityscapes. This edit spans two bridges (Brooklyn, Manhattan/DUMBO), two Dutch canals (Amsterdam, Utrecht), and skylines from Boston to Philadelphia, plus one outlier: the sandstone curve of Delicate Arch against open desert sky.

One photographer's take on skylines and bridges

Melanie Viola isolates a single striking structure and lets contrast do the rest — Grand Brooklyn Bridge Shadows and DUMBO Manhattan Bridge View read almost architectural in their symmetry, while Historic Boston Skyscrapers and Philadelphia Street Skyline work the city from ground level. The two Dutch canal shots, Amsterdam Canal Bicycles and Utrecht Canal Bicycle, soften the set with a slower, more everyday rhythm.

Sizes and framing for monochrome prints

Every print is available as 225g fine art paper in A3, 50×70cm, 70×100cm and A0, or as 400g cotton canvas in 30×40cm, 50×70cm and 70×100cm. Black-and-white, high-contrast work like this holds up especially well in a Black frame, which keeps the eye on the tonal range rather than competing with it; Oak is the softer alternative for a warmer room.

Pairing city and desert

Delicate Arch Desert Vista and Sea Oats Beach Sky are the two landscape pieces in the set, and both work as a break between the denser city shots on a gallery wall — three city prints plus one landscape reads more considered than nine of the same subject.
