Francesco Gulina – Expressive Figure Illustration Prints

Francesco Gulina works under the name SanGulina — Italian illustrator, textile designer, and trained fine artist now based in Berlin after years in the fashion and design industries. His practice brings together two worlds: the precise, knowing line of fashion illustration and the looser, more personal language of expressive figure drawing.

The subjects — portraits, nudes, botanical studies — are rendered with exaggerated proportions and a bold sense of negative space. Gulina knows exactly how much to leave out. The resulting images sit somewhere between a fashion sketch and a gallery drawing: immediately recognisable as illustration, but with a weight and intention that goes beyond decoration. His ink and mixed-media technique allows for a range of marks within a single piece — thin, confident contour lines alongside areas of wash or texture.

Format and Framing

Fine art paper is the natural home for Gulina's ink-based work. The smooth 225g matte surface preserves the precise lines and tonal variations of ink work with full fidelity — every mark reads exactly as intended. Paper prints are available in A3, 50×70 cm, 70×100 cm, and A0. Black frames suit the graphic quality of the work; oak adds warmth that softens the precision slightly.

Canvas brings a studio-drawing quality to larger pieces — the texture of the 400g cotton adds a physical presence that echoes the hand-made nature of the original. Canvas prints are available in 30×40 cm, 50×70 cm, and 70×100 cm.
