Katariina Kosunen – Nordic Illustration and Design Prints

Katariina Kosunen is a Finnish illustrator and designer whose work is grounded in the visual traditions of Nordic design — clarity, restraint, functional beauty, and a deep respect for negative space. Her compositions take natural forms and reduce them to their essential character: a leaf becomes a shape, a branch becomes a line, a bird becomes a carefully considered silhouette.

The sophistication of her work lies in what is not shown. The negative space in her compositions is not empty but active — it defines the shapes as much as the marks themselves do. This is a quality that the best Nordic design has always understood: that a well-placed void carries as much visual weight as a form.

Format and Framing

Kosunen's work is ideally suited to fine art paper. The smooth 225g matte surface preserves every clean edge and tonal relationship with precision, and the white ground of the paper becomes part of the composition — the negative space reading as intended. Paper prints are available in A3, 50×70 cm, 70×100 cm, and A0. Oak frames bring warmth to the Nordic aesthetic; black frames emphasise the graphic precision.

Canvas adds a warmth and tactile quality that complements the natural-world subject matter — the 400g cotton surface introduces a textural note that works well with botanical and nature-inspired compositions. Canvas prints are available in 30×40 cm, 50×70 cm, and 70×100 cm.
