Dale Hefer

Proudly Imperfect: The Idea Behind the Work

Dale Hefer paints in acrylic on canvas, and the brushwork stays visible on purpose. After years as a South African businesswoman named Businesswoman of the Year, she turned to painting full time and built her practice around a simple trademark, Proudly Imperfect(TM). A slightly uneven line or an unblended edge isn't a mistake to correct, it's proof a hand made the piece rather than a machine. Prints like Cozy Floral Teacup and Harlequin Teapot take everyday still-life subjects, tableware, teacups, patterned china, and give them the same loose, confident treatment.

Choosing a Size and Frame

Still-life subjects like these suit kitchens, dining rooms, and breakfast nooks especially well, where the objects in the painting echo the real crockery on the shelf below. A3 or 50 x 70 cm works for a single accent piece near a table setting, and grouping two or three at A3 alongside open shelving extends the still-life idea into the room itself. Every print is produced on 225g matte fine art paper with archival pigment inks in our Berlin studio, available in A3, 50 x 70 cm, 70 x 100 cm, or A0, framed in oak, black, or walnut brown, or shipped unframed.
