
Karl Von Martius
Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius "Karl von Martius" was a German doctor, botanical and anthropologist.
Karl von Martius and J. B. von Spix travelled from Rio de Janeiro over São Paulo to Belém at the mouth of the Amazon river, from where they went up the river by canoe, over 10,000 km and sent back over 3,500 collections of birds, insects, and other animals.
Later, in 1840, he worked on his epic opus "Flora brasiliensis". This collaborative effort included over 60 authors, and he worked on this book until his death.
