What counts as vintage here

This collection gathers reproductions of older artwork, advertising, and illustration, the kind of images that carry a sense of history without needing a specific date attached. You will find travel posters, zoo and natural history illustrations, old advertising art, and archival photography alongside pieces like Lobster Yellow and Antique Blue Whale. The common thread is age and craft rather than a single subject, so browsing works best if you know roughly what mood you want (nostalgic, graphic, muted, or bold) rather than searching for one exact theme.

Choosing a format and size

Every print in this collection is available as a poster on archival paper or as a canvas print, and sizes typically run from small desk formats up to large statement pieces around 70x100cm and above. For a single vintage piece as a focal point, size up rather than down, vintage imagery tends to read better with more presence on the wall. For an entryway, hallway, or above a console table, a mid-size poster in a simple frame keeps the look clean without competing with other decor.

Building a gallery wall with vintage prints

Vintage pieces mix well because most were originally designed as flat, graphic images, so they hold together even when subjects vary, a zoo poster next to a botanical print next to an old map. Keep frame colour consistent (oak, black, or brown, not a mix of all three) and let the images carry the variety. If you are working with three or more prints, group by a shared colour tone first and subject second, that is what actually makes a gallery wall look intentional rather than random. Odd numbers (3, 5, 7) generally arrange more naturally than even ones.

All prints in this collection are produced to order in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks, so colours and fine detail hold up over time rather than fading the way old posters printed decades ago actually did. If you are unsure between paper and canvas, paper poster prints show fine linework and text more sharply, which matters for vintage advertising and illustration pieces with small type or intricate detail, while canvas adds texture that suits looser, painterly vintage work. A floating frame is worth considering for canvas pieces if you want the finished look to sit closer to a gallery display than a simple stretched print.

Vintage art print buyers often ask whether these are reproductions of real historical pieces or new designs made to look old, and in this collection it's a mix of both, some are direct reproductions of archival illustration and advertising, others are new works created in a vintage style. The product title and description on each listing will tell you which, so check that if authenticity to a specific era matters to your space.
