Claire Hanley paints the botanical world with the eye of an observer and the hand of a painter who has learned to leave things out. Her work focuses on flowers and plants rendered through a soft, carefully considered palette — the kind of natural colour that sits close to the tones you might find in a garden at a particular hour, not the saturated brightness of illustration.

The linework is what distinguishes her approach: delicate but not timid, expressive without being loose. Hanley draws with precision and then softens, finding a balance between control and movement that gives each painting a sense of being caught in a moment of growth rather than frozen into a specimen study.
