Bethany Young

Bethany Young shoots Americana on both medium-format film and digital: neon motel signs, lowrider interiors, and open desert roads, shot with the same patience she brings to street scenes in San Francisco and Brooklyn. This edit spans nine prints, from a record store front to a forgotten roadside ice cream stand.

Road-trip photography with a documentary eye

Bethany Young works both medium-format film and digital, and it shows in the range here: a bright red classic car, a custom lowrider interior, the neon sign of a vintage desert motel, and a record store front that hasn't changed decor in decades. Alongside the road-trip imagery sit two city pieces — Urban Subway Bikes and the historic Alabama Theatre marquee — proof her patience for a good sign or a good street corner travels well beyond the desert.

Sizes and framing for Americana prints

Every print is available as 225g fine art paper in A3, 50×70cm, 70×100cm and A0, or as 400g cotton canvas in 30×40cm, 50×70cm and 70×100cm. Saturated, colour-heavy shots like Vibrant Orange Bathroom or Bright Red Classic Car hold their punch in a Black frame; warmer desert tones such as Open Desert Road or Vintage Desert Motel Sign suit Oak. Canvas prints can also be ordered as a floating frame.

Building an Americana gallery wall

Group by colour rather than subject: the warm desert set (Open Desert Road, Vintage Desert Motel Sign, Forgotten Ice Cream Stand) reads as one story even mixed with the record store and theatre shots. For a wider road-trip mix, our Travel poster collection pulls in more destination photography; for more retro sign and street work, see Urban.
