Frank Moth — Surreal Collage Between Past and Future
Frank Moth is a Greek artist duo whose work blends vintage photography with surreal, dreamlike composition. Their pieces take figures from mid-twentieth-century imagery and place them in unexpected landscapes — deserts, flower fields, cosmic backdrops. The titles tell the story: Missing the Ones We Left Behind, Nostalgia, Often Mistaken for Absent, Love. These are works about memory, longing, and human connection, rendered in a visual language that borrows equally from cinema, fashion photography, and collage art.
The retro-futuristic quality of their work gives it a distinctive position. The imagery feels simultaneously familiar and impossible — recognisable scenes rearranged into something that could not have existed. It is collage with emotional weight, not just visual novelty. The muted, vintage-toned colour palette ties the compositions together, creating a consistent body of work that reads as a series rather than individual pieces.
Choosing the Right Format
On 225g fine art paper, the photographic detail and tonal subtlety come through with precision. The matte surface suits the vintage aesthetic — no glare, no distraction from the quiet drama of each scene. Paper prints are available in A3, 50x70cm, 70x100cm, and A0. Frame options include oak, black, and walnut brown. Black frames reinforce the cinematic quality, while oak adds warmth to the already nostalgic palette.
On 400g cotton canvas, works like Nostalgia and Missing the Ones We Left Behind gain a painterly depth. The woven texture softens the photographic edges and gives the collage elements a more unified surface quality. Canvas prints are available in 30x40cm, 50x70cm, and 70x100cm, with an optional floating frame for a gallery-style presentation.
Pairing with Other Collections
Frank Moth's dreamlike compositions pair well with our surrealism collection — the shared interest in altered reality and unexpected juxtaposition creates a cohesive wall grouping. For a contrasting pairing, combine their work with pieces from our vintage collage collection, where similar source material is used in a more graphic, design-led way. If you enjoy the nostalgic, cinematic quality, browse our contemporary artist prints for more work by living artists we collaborate with directly.
All prints are produced in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years. Each piece is printed to order on the day it ships.
