Japanese Woodblock Prints and Shin-Hanga Art

Japan's printmaking tradition spans centuries, from the bold outlines and flat colour of Edo-period ukiyo-e to the atmospheric light effects of early 20th-century shin-hanga. This collection brings together vintage Japanese prints that hold up visually at any scale — landscapes, waterfalls, florals, and seasonal subjects rendered with a precision and subtlety unique to the medium. Artists include Katsushika Hokusai, whose waterfall and flower compositions remain among the most recognisable images in Japanese art.

Every print is reproduced in our Berlin studio on 225g matte fine art paper using archival pigment inks rated for 100+ years. Available as fine art prints in sizes A3, 50x70 cm, 70x100 cm, and A0, or as canvas prints on 400g cotton canvas in 30x40 cm, 50x70 cm, and 70x100 cm. Frames available in oak, black, and walnut brown.

Why Collect Vintage Japanese Art Prints

The formal inventiveness of Japanese printmaking influenced generations of Western artists, from the Impressionists onward. A well-chosen woodblock print adds structure and calm to a room without competing for attention — the compositions are confident enough to hold a wall on their own. Whether you are drawn to the dramatic verticals of Hokusai's waterfalls or the quieter intimacy of a bird-and-flower study, these prints work across living rooms, hallways, and studios.

Materials and Production

All prints are produced to order in our Berlin studio. Fine art paper prints use 225g acid-free matte stock; canvas prints are produced on 400g textured cotton and stretched over a solid wood frame. Both formats use the same archival pigment inks for consistent colour accuracy. Framing options include oak, black, and walnut brown — each handmade and fitted in-house before shipping.
